Climate is the decider

Alicante's climate demands properly engineered windows

Alicante is famous for one of the best climates in Spain: 350 sunny days a year (AEMET station 8025 at El Altet) and an average temperature 1.5 °C higher than Torrevieja. But that same benign climate punishes any poorly chosen joinery without mercy:

  • Record coastal UV radiation: Chinese PVC profiles, or any profile without specific stabilisers, turn yellow within 4-6 years on S and SW orientations. Kömmerling Class S and Salamander hold their colour and rigidity for 40 years.
  • Salt humidity from the bay: 65% average humidity combined with Mediterranean salt corrodes any hardware without surface-treated steel within 3-4 years. We work with Roto NX and MACO Multi-Matic with marine anti-corrosion treatment.
  • Easterly winds, less aggressive than in the Vega Baja but still present: 60-80 km/h gusts are normal in autumn. Single 4 mm glazing vibrates and whistles. We replace with 4/16/4 climalit double glazing with argon cavity.
  • "Gota fría" autumn storms: torrential rainfall events (60-80 mm in 24 h). Every window is installed with double EPDM gaskets, an anti-rain bottom seal and Sika perimeter sealing.

Alicante (postcodes 03001-03016) sits in CTE climate zone B3. Every window we install leaves the workshop with CE marking, declaration of performance (DoP) and the full documentation for your ITE building inspection, income-tax deduction, NextGen grant or Heritage Office filing.

Declaration of performance (DoP) by model and project. Without this, no window has been legal in Spain since 2014.

Answers to the most common questions in Alicante

How long does the full installation take in Alicante?+

From signed quote to handover: 8-12 working days of manufacturing (faster than in other cities thanks to workshop proximity) + 1-2 installation days per standard home. If your building is in the Casco Antiguo and needs Heritage Office approval, add 2-4 weeks for the filing.

I live in a listed building in the Casco Antiguo: can I install PVC?+

Yes, but with conditions. Alicante City Council requires the original look to be preserved: specific RAL (no bright white), wood foil (oak, walnut or RAL imitation), decorative Georgian bars if they were there, and sometimes traditional casement opening instead of tilt-turn. We file the whole prior application with Urban Planning, including drawings and photo-montage. Filing time: 3-6 weeks.

Is there a fee for the on-site survey if I live in San Juan Playa or Cabo Huertas?+

No. The whole city of Alicante (postcodes 03001-03016 + San Juan Pueblo) is inside our free survey zone with no call-out fee. As our workshop is in the city itself, the cost of moving the surveyor is minimal and we absorb it.

Which PVC profile is best for Alicante: 70, 76 or 88 mm?+

For a standard apartment in Playa San Juan, PAU or Albufereta: Kömmerling 70 AD gives Uw 1.1-1.3 W/m²K — enough. For a main residence on a SW orientation with direct sun (Vistahermosa, c/ Aguilera): 76 mm (5-7% better insulation, which matters with 350 sunny days). For a Passivhaus villa or a very large home: 88 mm with triple glazing. We will advise during the survey based on orientation.

How do you work with homeowners' associations in Alicante?+

We coordinate with the property administrator, prepare quotes per home type (A/B/C by size), apply a 12-18% volume discount and phase manufacturing so as not to halt the block. In large buildings along Avda. Maisonnave, Avda. Aguilera or the PAUs, we plan by staircase and timetable in line with AGM decisions. It is a regular service: 40% of our Alicante turnover comes from communities.

Can you process the Alicante City Council IBI rebate?+

Yes. We deliver the before-and-after energy certificate, itemised invoice, technical data sheets with Uw values and installer's declaration. With that pack you can file the IBI rebate application with the Council and the 60% income-tax deduction. If you wish, we can recommend an Alicante administrative agent who handles the filing for around €80-150.

How does payment work? Do you accept financing?+

We accept bank transfer, card and Bizum. Usual schedule: 50% on signing and 50% on installation completion (not before). For larger jobs (Cabo Huertas villas, communities) we split into 3 milestones. If you need bank financing, we can point you to Alicante-based lenders with preferential rates for energy refurbishments.

What about my old windows? Do you remove them from the building?+

Yes. We dismantle them, remove them from the building and take them to an authorised recycling point in Alicante (municipal Ecoparc). Removal cost is included in the quote — it never shows up as an "extra" at the end. If your community needs a waste-management certificate for the chair, we provide one.
