Why invest in RC2/RC3
Costa Blanca is the 4th Spanish province for break-ins on second-home properties (INE 2024 data). These are the six concrete advantages of RC2/RC3 over a standard window.
Not marketing: each model is tested in an ENAC-accredited lab with a professional attacker and tools defined by UNE EN 1627. The certificate has a traceable report number.
80% of residential break-ins are abandoned if they take more than 3 minutes (Catalan police statistic). RC2 guarantees those 3 minutes. RC3 buys 5. Time is the metric that matters.
The steel reinforcement is internal, the perimeter locks aren't visible when the window is closed. The only visible cue is the cylinder. You don't have "Fort Knox" — you have a normal window with superpowers.
Mapfre, AXA, Mutua Madrileña and Línea Directa apply a discount if you present the RC2/RC3 certificate. For a €450/year policy, the saving is €45-110/year, which pays back the upgrade in 6-8 years.
The cylinder isn't a detail: it's what gets attacked. We use class K6 cylinders that are anti-bumping, anti-snapping and anti-extraction. Registered key (can't be copied without the ID card) and re-keying service if you lose a copy.
Meets fire safety regulations: the lock opens from inside without a key under any circumstance. The key is only needed to lock from outside. Anti-burglary, not anti-escape.
The standard that sets the bar
UNE EN 1627 (harmonised European standard) classifies the level of anti-intrusion resistance into six grades. It's not the manufacturer's opinion: each grade requires passing specific tests with defined tools in an ENAC-accredited lab. Here's what each level means:
The right level for residential housing is RC2. RC3 if ground floor in a high-risk urban area or an isolated home.

The ideal level for 80% of Costa Blanca residential homes is RC2. It doesn't make sense paying for RC3 if you live on a 5th floor.

The RC2 window is the base, but combined with an anti-lift shutter, alarm or glass-break sensor, the deterrent effect multiplies. These are the four most effective setups.

Recent work

Free technical visit. We assess each window's accessibility (floor, neighbours, street visibility), local burglary history and current protection level.
Not every window needs the same level: a 4th floor doesn't need what the ground floor does. We deliver a plan with the recommended RC level per opening.
PDF document with the price per window indicating RC level, model, glazing, hardware and cylinder. No last-minute "extras" — the price is closed.
Each RC window goes through double quality control: lock test + cylinder test. Traceability by serial number for certification.
Specific anchoring to the structural wall per the manufacturer's protocol (not foam only). Meeting the install protocol is what validates the RC certificate.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. According to Spanish Interior Ministry and Catalan police statistics, 80% of residential break-in attempts are abandoned if the burglar takes more than 3 minutes. RC2 guarantees those 3 minutes against manual tools (screwdriver, pliers, wedge — the most common in opportunistic intrusion). The burglar sees they're slow and moves to the next home. For professionals with power tools, you need RC3 or RC4.
Rule of thumb: RC2 for standard residential (ground floor, villa in a populated area, second residence). RC3 for isolated villas, ground-floor businesses with a till, homes with a history of attempts. RC4 only for jewellers, pharmacies, premises with valuables. RC5-RC6 almost never in residential. Our adviser Manuel (former National Police) does a free assessment during the technical visit.
Hardly at all. The galvanised steel reinforcement is inside the frame (not visible). The perimeter locks aren't visible with the window closed. The only visible aesthetic cue is the cylinder on the handle — and integrated models exist that blend in. From outside, an RC2 window is indistinguishable from a standard one. You don't have "Fort Knox".

All major Spanish insurers (Mapfre, AXA, Mutua Madrileña, Línea Directa, HDI, Allianz) apply a 10-25% discount on home insurance if you present: 1) RC2 certificate from the accredited lab, 2) installation invoice, 3) installer declaration. Yes, completely. It's mandatory under the Spanish Building Code (DB-SI): every window must be openable from inside without a key in any circumstance. The lock unlocks by turning the handle. The cylinder key is only needed to lock from outside (when you leave). A window that couldn't be opened from inside would be illegal and a life hazard in a fire.
Surcharge over the base model of the same series: RC2 +25%, RC3 +45%, RC4 +80%. Concrete example: 1.2 × 1.4 m Kömmerling 88 Plus window in standard version €700 → RC2 version €875. For an 80 m² home with 7 windows, the total RC2 surcharge is around €1,500-2,200. It's the security upgrade with the best cost/benefit ratio on the market — much better than an alarm without a physical barrier.
