Lift-and-slide HS Hebe-Schiebe window in a Costa Blanca villa

Hebe-Schiebe · openings up to 6.5 m

Lift-and-Slide HS Windows

The German Hebe-Schiebe system: the sash lifts 6 mm when you turn the handle and glides with one finger even at 400 kg. For living rooms, penthouses and villas that open out to the garden with no visible frames.

Why lift-and-slide HS wins

6 reasons to install an HS instead of a standard sliding window

HS isn't "a better sliding window": it's a different category of carpentry. Designed in Germany for impossible openings, compression-sealed bottom gasket and cathedral-sized sashes. These 6 things no conventional sliding window can do.

📏

Openings up to 6.5 m

With 2 moving sashes + 1 lateral fixed sash we cover openings 6.5 m wide × 3.2 m tall. A standard sliding window tops out at 4 m and the profiles are twice as thick.

🪟

No visible vertical frame

Central profiles of 30-50 mm (vs 80-120 mm on a normal sliding window). It looks like a continuous glass wall: identical view to a fixed window, but with full opening.

⚙️

6 mm lift = effortless gliding

Turn the handle 180° and the sash rises 6 mm, separating from the gaskets. It then slides with under 3 kg of force. An older person opens 400 kg effortlessly. On closing it lowers and seals by compression.

🏋️

Sashes up to 400 kg

Roto Patio Lift or Siegenia HS-Portal carriages take 200 kg per sash as standard and up to 400 kg in the reinforced version. Allows triple safety glazing with no weight concerns.

🌧️

Superior tightness

Class 4 air, E1500 water, C5 wind. A normal sliding window only reaches Class 2-3 air and E900 water. In a seafront home with 110 km/h Levante winds, the difference is obvious: HS doesn't leak, sliding does.

🌡️

Uw down to 0.8 W/m²K

The Passivhaus versions (Premidoor 88, Schüco ASS 77 PD.HI) with triple glazing drop to Uw 0.77-0.84 W/m²K. A standard sliding window runs 2.0 to 2.8 — over triple the energy loss.

Hebe-Schiebe mechanics

How a lift-and-slide window really works

HS stands for "Hebe-Schiebe" in German: "lift and slide". Unlike a conventional sliding window, which drags the sash over the gaskets (wearing them out and letting air through), HS follows 3 precise mechanical steps:

  1. You turn the handle 180° from the start position. Internally, a gear set moves a perimeter rod that drives 4 compression catches + 2 sash lifters.
  2. The sash rises 6 mm, separating from the lower gasket and the lateral EPDM seals. The sash now "floats" on the steel carriages (Roto Patio Lift 200/300 or Siegenia HS-Portal).
  3. You slide with under 3 kg of force. Once in the desired position, you turn the handle back and the sash drops 6 mm, sealing by perimeter compression — the actual seal against the weather.

The lower carriage can be 200 kg/sash (standard) or 300-400 kg/sash (reinforced for triple glazing + large dimensions). We size it from the real weight calculated during the visit.

HS vs traditional sliding

When the HS premium is worth it

An HS costs 2-3 times more than a conventional sliding window of the same size. Does the premium make sense? Depends on the opening and usage. This table summarises what we see in closed projects.

Technical process

How we run an HS project (incl. building works)

An HS isn't "a big window" — it's a structural element. Loads of 200-400 kg per sash require verifying the lintel, anchors and levelling. Coordinating carpentry with building works is what tells a perfect installation from one that sags after a few months.

01

Technical visit + load calc

We measure the opening, assess the existing lintel and orientation. We calculate real weight per sash with the chosen glazing.

Time: 24-48 h after contact

02

Lintel reinforcement if needed

If the opening exceeds 4 m or the lintel is insufficient, we profile HEB-160/180/200 galvanised steel. Building-works partner.

Time: 2-5 days

03

Manufacturing with traceability

Order placed with the manufacturer (Kömmerling/Cortizo/Schüco) with a unique batch number. Lead time 4-7 weeks depending on system.

Time: 28-49 days

04

Anchoring + laser levelling

Chemical anchors every 50 cm in structural concrete. Millimetre levelling with a self-levelling laser.

Time: 1 day

05

Fitting and sash placement

200-400 kg carriages placed, on-site assembly. Minimum 4-person crew for large sashes.

Time: 1-2 days

06

Sealing and hardware fine-tune

Closed-cell Sika Boom sealing. Fine hardware adjustment so the lift is perfect along the entire travel.

Time: 1 day

07

Watertightness test

Water test with a garden hose simulating driving rain. Verification of the compression-sealed lower gasket.

Time: 1 hour

08

Handover + technical dossier

CE marking, DoP, warranties, maintenance sheet, installer certificate. All in PDF and paper.

Time: same day as installation

The team that fits your HS

People with names, official training and a building partner

An HS install isn't a one-person job: 400 kg sashes demand a 4-person crew minimum. And if structural lintel reinforcement is involved, we add our building partner — we've worked with them for 8 years.

Official training: Kömmerling Academy, Cortizo Academy, Schüco Partner Network certified.

Warranty and regulations

Official documentation you receive with your HS

Every lift-and-slide HS we install leaves with a complete dossier: Declaration of Performance (DoP), hardware certificates and a written 10-year warranty. This matters because an €18,000 HS with no paperwork is worth zero if a claim arises.

CE marking (Reg. EU 305/2011)

DoP per model and project with certified Uw, air and water tightness values. Without this, an HS hasn't been legal in Spain since 2014.

Air tightness EN 12207 Class 4

Test certificate from an accredited lab: losses <2.25 m³/h·m² at 600 Pa. The highest level achievable in carpentry.

Water tightness EN 12208 Class E1500

Resistance to driving rain with simulated 100 km/h winds for 30 minutes. No leaks in Vega Baja cold drops.

Wind resistance EN 12210 Class C5

Withstands 2,000 Pa of wind pressure with allowable deflection <L/300. Direct 120 km/h Levante with no visible deformation.

Roto Patio Lift / Siegenia HS-Portal hardware

5-year German-manufacturer warranty + 25,000 certified cycles. If the hardware fails within term, replacement at no cost.

VentanaCosta 10-year warranty

10 years on the profile + 5 years on hardware + 2 years on sealing/installation. Written, signed contract — not a leaflet. If there's a defect, we come back.

HS frequently asked questions

What people ask before requesting a quote

Does a 400 kg sash really lift easily?+

Yes — that's the magic of the Hebe-Schiebe system. You turn the handle 180° and a gear set multiplies the force of your hand by a factor of 80-120. Internally, two steel lifters raise the sash 6 mm clear of the gasket and the carriages take the weight. Then you slide with less than 3 kg of force — an older person or a child can move it effortlessly. It feels like opening a very well-built drawer.

Does my opening need structural lintel reinforcement?+

Depends. If the current opening already took a 3-4 m window with double glazing, the lintel normally handles it. If you want to enlarge the clear opening to 5-6.5 m or move from a brick wall to glass, you need a steel HEB profile (160-200 mm) calculated by an architect. During the technical visit we assess the existing lintel with a laser micrometer and tell you whether it's needed — no surprises later.

How much more does an HS cost vs a conventional sliding window?+

Roughly 2-3 times more per m². A standard aluminium sliding window runs 280 to 450 €/m². A PVC HS Premidoor 76 starts at 750 €/m². But you're buying another category: openings twice as wide, Class 4 air tightness (vs Class 2), Uw 0.8-1.4 (vs 2.0-2.8). If you live seafront with Levante winds, the HS pays for itself in 5-7 years through energy savings + no need to re-seal afterwards.

Can it be motorised with Somfy or Schüco eSlide?+

Yes, all mid- and upper-tier HS systems support motorisation. Somfy offers a linear motor with remote + mobile app for Premidoor and Cortizo Cor 4600 (€1,400-2,000 per sash). Schüco has its native eSlide system for ASS 77 PD.HI (€2,200-2,600 per sash). Very useful for restaurants, hotels or people with reduced mobility. The motor includes an obstacle sensor for safety.

Does it integrate with home automation (Alexa, Google Home, KNX)?+

Yes, the motorised version is controllable by voice via Somfy TaHoma or Schüco SmartHome. We also integrate with KNX (the professional standard for home automation). Typical scenarios: "open living-room HS at sunrise if indoor temperature >26°C", "close all HS if the rain sensor detects a cold drop". Control sits on the owner's tablet or a wall panel.

Can an HS be done on a corner without a pillar (90°)?+

Yes, but it requires structural calculation. The existing corner pillar is replaced by a hanging ceiling beam (HEB-200 minimum) that takes the loads. Two HS openings converge at 90° and the sashes can overlap on opening, leaving the corner fully clear. It's one of the most spectacular jobs: the view goes from 90° to a real 220°. Extra cost: €5,000-9,000 for the building works + architect's calculation.

How long from signing to installed handover?+

From quote signing: 4-7 weeks of manufacturing (depending on system — Kömmerling Premidoor faster, Schüco ASS 77 PD.HI slower) + 1-3 days of installation. If there's structural reinforcement, add 2-5 days beforehand. Typical total: 5-8 weeks. We provide a milestone-based calendar at signing.

What maintenance does an HS need per year?+

Very little: vacuum the lower rail twice a year to remove sand/dust (especially on the seafront with Levante winds), and every 24 months grease the hardware with the specific Roto/Siegenia grease (we provide a 250 ml tub). EPDM gaskets are inspected at 5 years and replaced at 10 years in aggressive coastal climates. We hand over a maintenance sheet with a calendar.
